Correct Your Bite with Clear Brackets

The functionality of braces with a more discreet look.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Ceramic Braces?

Ceramic, or tooth-colored, braces are a great option for patients who are looking for the functionality of braces but want a bracket that is less noticeable. They typically can be used in complex orthodontic cases and offer a shorter treatment time than clear aligners. The brackets themselves are smoother than metal, so they are often a more comfortable option.

Ceramic braces are more fragile than metal, meaning more care needs to be taken so they do not chip. Also, treatment can take longer than metal braces since less pressure can be applied to the brackets. The elastics that attach the wire to the bracket are prone to staining, so they may need to be replaced more often to keep a clean look. Ceramic braces are also usually more expensive than metal.

How Do I Know If I Am a Candidate for Ceramic Braces?

Ceramic braces are a great option for many orthodontic cases, but they may not always be the best choice. Any orthodontic treatment should begin with a thorough evaluation and discussion of your goals and expected outcomes. Only then can your practitioner make recommendations as to which treatment (metal braces, ceramic braces, or clear aligners) are the best fit for you.

As a general rule of thumb, ceramic braces are able to be used in many of the same cases as metal braces.
