Regular dental checkups and cleanings are critical for your overall health.
One of the many benefits to our quaint, family-oriented dental office is that Dr. Joe or Yogi, our dental hygienist, will always personally complete your checkup and cleaning. Whether we last saw you 6 months ago or it’s been far longer since your last visit, you will be treated with the highest respect and lack of judgment. We may recommend dental X-rays, depending on how recently they were last completed, and you will receive a thorough examination. Any plaque build-up on your teeth will be removed as well.
One of our dental assistants will record details about the health of your teeth and gums, and Dr. Joe will share whether additional treatment is necessary for potential concerns. Finally, your teeth will be polished and flossed by a dental assistant or our hygienist.
Your comfort throughout your cleaning is very important to us, so if you have any concerns or a dental phobia, please let us know before your appointment begins.
Polishing your teeth during your cleaning is important step that has several benefits. For some, the noise of the polishing tool is concerning, but rest assured that the tip of the tool is very gentle, and you should not experience any pain.
In between cleanings, build up creates a rough surface that gathers bacteria and causes inflammation more quickly. Polishing smooths the surface, preventing the bacteria from being able to adhere. Additionally, polishing removes surface stains, making your teeth whiter and smile brighter. We use a polishing paste with fluoride, which hardens the enamel of your teeth.
Depending upon how much plaque was removed, you may notice some gum puffiness and sensitivity for up to 24 hours after your checkup and cleaning. If sensitivity persists longer than 24 hours, please contact our office at 630.420.0013 to determine if you should come back in.
