Straighten Your Smile, Align Your Bite

Our Naperville office provides a comprehensive orthodontic solution.

A One-Stop Dental and Orthodontic Provider

Many people believe they need a separate dentist and orthodontist, and there are absolutely practitioners who only provide one service or the other.

One of the myriad benefits of our Naperville dental office is that Dr. Haselhorst is also able to provide orthodontic treatment. Not only does that streamline the process for busy families, it also ensures oral wellness is a top priority throughout orthodontic treatment.

What Should I Expect with Metal Braces?

Metal braces remain the most commonly used orthodontic treatment, and for good reason – they are effective for adolescents and adults alike. When under the treatment of a qualified practitioner, teeth are slowly shifted over time into a more favorable position for both aesthetics and bite alignment.

Metal brackets are affixed to the teeth using a strong glue, and a wire of varying thicknesses is subtly bent to gently shift the teeth. Throughout a series of regular appointments, the wire continues to be adjusted or changed to a heavier or thinner wire, depending upon how the teeth need to be shifted. Elastics may also be used to apply more pressure, as needed.

Treatment can take anywhere from 12-24 months, depending upon the amount of shifting necessary and patient compliance with utilizing elastics, etc.

Caring for Your Braces

While the glue that is used to adhere the brackets to the surface of the teeth is very strong, brackets can easily break or pop off if care is not taken. Very crunchy foods like carrots and popcorn, as well as sticky foods like taffy and gum, should be avoided while undergoing orthodontic treatment. It is also very important to brush and floss regularly (and carefully) to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
