Veneers give you the perfect smile you’ve always dreamed of, in less time than you thought possible.
Veneers are custom-fabricated shells that are bonded to the tooth to enhance the overall appearance of the teeth and smile. As opposed to whitening treatments, which are used when teeth have both satisfactory shape and position, veneers are used when teeth are badly stained or when spacing and/or shape need enhancement.
Depending upon your specific case and goals, veneers may either be created chairside or using lab-fabricated materials.
There are two main types of veneers – those created chairside and those created in a lab.
Chairside veneering is a process of bonding a quartz-filled resin to the tooth. The veneer is carefully shaped to ensure it looks as natural as possible. Lab-fabricated veneers are made of porcelain, and they are bonded over the tooth. Porcelain veneers are typically more durable and stain resistant than quartz-filled resin, though a small amount of the front layer of the tooth usually needs to be removed to allow room for the thin layer of porcelain.
While veneers look and feel like your natural teeth, it is important to take precautions to keep them looking their best. Avoid hard foods for the first 24-48 hours as the bonding fully cures. If your veneers are resin, keep in mind that they are slightly less durable and are more prone to staining than porcelain veneers. Take care to brush thoroughly and avoid foods and beverages that may stain. Regular dental checkups and cleanings are also critical to check for loosening and/or chipping of the veneers.
